The Concept.

What is Starter Stories?
It is a small, solar-powered boutique bakery, located near the north boat ramp of Stockton, serving sourdough baked goods and delicious coffees.
I (Shiv) started this bakery purely out of my own personal need for delicious tasting German-style bread. Half a jar of 'sourdough starter' borrowed from a friend, a little bit of creativity and LOTS of practice & patience, gave birth to this passion project - Starter Stories. What started as a tiny home-based micro-bakery, is now a team of 4 lovely women, serving the community of Stockton and beyond.
We bake using a variety of flours, such as wholewheat, rye & spelt, and a 'sourdough starter' which is a naturally fermented yeast. We are focused on creating good quality baked goods, with honest ingredients, and following the authentic process of sourdough making. Our baked goods are slow-fermented over a period of 48-52 hours. The probiotics make it easier to digest & lighter on your gut compared to commercial yeast.
Are the breads organic / vegan / gluten free?
My sourdough loafs are not certified as 'ORGANIC'. And while I try to mostly buy organic ingredients, sometimes it's just not possible. In which case, the general rule is to make sure my ingredients have no artificial flavours or preservatives. Most herbs used are straight from my own backyard.
Most of the flavours are VEGAN-friendly (no animal or dairy products used). The cheese flavoured breads also provide a Vegan alternative using nutritional yeast.
